Find the actual pass requirements
Check your syllabus for the passing percentage, final exam weight and any separate requirement to pass the final itself. A calculator can solve a weighted-average target; it cannot waive a mandatory exam score or attendance rule.
Work backward from the target
Imagine a course where your current grade, excluding the final, is 62%. You need a 60% course grade and the final counts for 40%. Your completed work contributes 62 × 0.60 = 37.2 percentage points. The final must supply 60 − 37.2 = 22.8 points. Divide by 0.40 to get 57% on the final.
Enter these values in the final grade calculator. Compare targets only after checking the inputs: a gradebook that counts ungraded work as zero can make your current percentage unsuitable.
Convert a percentage to test questions carefully
On an equally weighted 50-question exam, 57% corresponds to 28.5 correct answers. You cannot answer half a whole question correctly in this model, so you need at least 29 correct, or 58%. This changes when partial credit or different question weights apply. The test score calculator shows raw percentages.
Leave room for uncertainty
A mathematical minimum is a planning reference. Course rounding rules, a change in assessment weights or an incorrectly entered current grade can change the outcome. Plan for a score above the minimum and ask your instructor about ambiguous rules.
If the target is out of reach
A required score above 100% is not attainable on a standard exam capped at 100%. Recheck the weights, then ask about legitimate options such as reassessment or academic support. A negative required score means the weighted average already meets the target even with zero on the final, but separate course requirements still apply.
